KSM Supports the Learning of Students in St. Francis
As the lead mentor of SFROBOTICS, a 4-12th grade robotics program for the St. Francis School District, I look to push students, stretch their learning and build upon their experiences. As students learn more industry specific applications which results in stretching the resources we have in house, I must look to industry to partner with in supporting student learning. KSM has supported the learning of students in St. Francis by collaborating on the manufacturing of custom parts used on our different robotics projects, FIRST TECH Challenge and MATE ROV programs, as well as through the mentoring of students with questions that engage students in the learning process and the design process development. Examples include discussion around the use of the “Sheet Metal” tool when designing aluminum parts to tolerances based on material dimensions. With the support of KSM, students have gained more than just cool custom designed robot parts but a learning opportunity like no other in collaborating with industry professionals and maybe one day, a future employer.
